About the Workshop: This workshop is designed for the novice who is exploring new career options and/or others already offering support to new and expectant families who would like to be certified under DONA International. Throughout the class participants will engage in activities and discussions designed to integrate new information with personal and professional experiences.
A common question I get asked is... "Why do I have to attend a 3 day workshop, can't I do this workshop on-line?" My answer is this, This is not an "on-line" career. You have to learn to talk and physically connect with your clients, so that they can learn to talk and connect with their babies. For your certification you'll be asked to write a essay about the value of postpartum support, a community resource page, and a summery about the support you gave each of your 3 qualifying clients. Plus, there is something "magical" about getting a group of women together to learn from each other about supporting new moms and their families.
I welcome nursing moms with babies under 3 months old, or having your baby come to class to nurse. Due to the intense nature of the workshop, most mothers find it helpful to bring a support person to watch the baby outside the meeting room between feedings. Please respect the needs of others registrants and care for your baby outside the room if s/he becomes disruptive or if a faculty member asks you to do so.
My workshop time frame is as follows: 8:00am-6:00pm each day, with two 15 minute breaks and a hour for lunch at noon.
