Preemies
Multiples have a habit of arriving early, so many new parents have to deal with having preemies too! Whether you have a preemie who arrives early alone or as a set of early multiples, you will need extra help.
When babies are born between 34 and 36 weeks (or earlier), they generally have a low birth weight, and may have difficulty breastfeeding. These babies require extra attention, which is stressful to already-exhausted parents who may have spent weeks at the hospital. Our postpartum doulas can ease worry and burdens new parents experience during this time by providing extra hands and experienced care.
Some of the benefits doulas provide to parents of preemies are:
- Greater breastfeeding success
- Confidence that will result in successful outcomes
- Teaching "Kangaroo Care" and baby wearing
- Information about community support and resources for families with preemies
- Emotional support that helps in every way, including reducing the occurrence or severity of a postpartum mood disorder
